Improving the MSM phone holder
A simple 3d-printed clip keep the MSM phone holder square to the nomad.
Update, there is now a You tube short showing how this clip used on my channel at this link.
One of the reasons I designed my 3D printed phone holder was because I was never satisfied that I could guarantee the little ball head was truely square to the nomad body out in the field. I could have glued or screwed the ball head into place (others did) but then it would have taken up more space in the bag and I would not have been able to swap between orientations for PS Align Pro and SkySafari/PhotoPills. So I designed a totally seperate phone holder bracket which quite a lot of people are happy with (including me). You can find it here.
However there are still a lot of people out there that are buying and using the original MSM phone holder that slips into the Arca Swiss bracket you can mount on the back of the Nomad. So I decided (on a seriously wet and dreary day in Adelaide) to resurrect and old project and design and print a little 3d printed clip that holds the ball head square to the Nomad in either orientation. I am sure others have done the same, so apologies if I havnt’t see your efforts.
It simply clips over the outside of the ball head part of the phone holder with a couple of aligning lugs to keep is straight while holding the phone holder square to the Nomad. It is tiny (45×30×30 mm) and only weighs about 5 grams. I will probably never actually use it other than in the testing but I hate to see people frustrated so here it is.
This is the preferred orientation for using PS Align Pro.
As usual you can down load the 3D print file at this link. The usual conditions apply, it is free for anyone who wants to print it up but I do ask that you do not upload it to any sharing sites or distribute or sell it to others.
If you do find it useful and want to show your appreciation, feel free to buy me a cup of coffee at this link.
As an aside I am an MSM Ambassador and affiliate these days so if you want to buy any MSM gear (and I can highly recommend it) if you sue this link I get a small commission at no cost to you. Try using this link.
